The reason I cage them Cameron is because they grow next to a lake and the Canada geese graze the banksides, when the orchids start to grow they easily get trampled by them, also Muntjac deer sometimes eat the the flower heads. They grow at a site where I work, so I take the opportunity to try and protect them, because the cages prevent any disturbance to the plants, they grow into superb specimens. I do the same with the Bee orchids that also grow on the site. I hope this explains why they’re caged.
